Photographic Documentation, West Sumatra

Client: Australian Arts Council
Location: West Sumatra, Indonesia

Wildsite was engaged to produce photographs documenting an Australian Arts Council project (Sumatralia)  which explored the traditional music of West Sumatra, Indonesia. 

Project locations were extremely remote, and required specialist skills and equipment to allow the collection and storage of large numbers of images, and also the maintenance and operation of the equipment in the harsh conditions.  The photographs produced not only document aspects of the traditional music of the region but also aimed to capture the essence of the people and their environment which are the source and inspiration of the areas' unique music.
